Where It All Began - The I See You Company Story

The Full Story

Let me start by giving you the backstory for how we go here. About 8 years ago my mom and dad went into retirement and made a huge life-changing decision – to move to southern California from cold and wet northern California. This was the long-standing dream of our family – live where it’s always sunny and warm – in So-Cal. What we didn’t expect was to find within six months of this move, mom was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.  This was the last thing on our family’s radar and the last thing our parents expected when making such an exciting life change. Mom was able to find some of the best doctors around and get the treatment she needed. From 2011-2013 our mother was battling for her life – battling both physically and mentally. Our entire family was battling financially, mentally and emotionally while we stood there side by side our mom for every treatment, doctors visit, follow up appointment, phone calls, paying bills, etc. So, life was a battle – but at least there was sun! It’s amazing how important the small things become when life presents you with a dump truck full of lemons. And, as you can imagine, with the financial stress of paying for treatment, etc. dad officially was out of retirement and found himself doing anything to pay the bills (yard work, construction, working in 115 degrees weather to get jobs done asap so he could be present for moms surgery or treatment, etc.). After all this said, the great and amazing thing is our mother is alive, well, strong, and cancer free!

So, as our family started to thrive again, we all eventually went back into the workforce and living the normal 9-5 job like most people do. One of the companies that we worked for didn't have any structure in place for employee recognition. As a family, it is just normal for us to acknowledge what deserves to be acknowledged, and it was hard to see so many employees feeling un-heard, un-seen and under appreciated. So, we took it into our own hands to give little "thank yous" here and there (cup of coffee, gift card, etc.).

The one specific example that had a lasting impact was when we went to thank a co-worker for her the amazing job she had done and handed her the Starbucks cup and said, “Thank you for doing such an amazing job yesterday” she said “Thank you...But I don’t drink coffee”. We responded with “I know this is Tea”. She asked how I knew she didn’t drink coffee and I told her “because I see you” as tears filled her eyes she said back to me “no one sees me” and the response back was simple...“but I do.”

It was this moment that was inspiration for our company - The I See You Company. We all know what it feels like to not be appreciated, accepted, acknowledged, loved, cared for, and even seen. This is why we invented our I See You™ Candle – because everyone deserves to be seen.

If this resonates with you, if this is something that you want to experience or have someone else then you need our  I See You™ Candle!

We realize the state of our society and at the end of the day we are starting a movement – and I See You Movement. Today we want you to reach out to someone and say I see you, I see your heart, I see your kindness, I see the job well done, I see more than just the physical you…We want people to do something different and make someone’s day by the smallest gesture – saying Thank You. And now, you can do it so easily with our  I See You™ Candle  – you can put it on anything – and it’s not going to break the bank!
